CGWS Plans for 2006

The main proposals of the Center For Gender and Women Studies of UP Manila for 2006 revolves and emanates from the three (3) Goals and two (2) Objectives of the Center that were developed and approved by the BOR on the occasion of the creation of the CGWS in 1998. The CGWS also proposes to contextualize its numerous undertakings, including the Gender and Development (GAD) Plans, within the framework and context of the Rights-Based Approach to Development and the Alma Ata Declaration on Primary Health Care.

The Center's proposed approach for this year would be to carry out strategies that would be formulated within the various colleges and units of the University including our numerous partner Local Government Units in the various community-partnership programs of the different units and colleges.

The CGWS also aims to adapt a genuinely democratic and participatory approach in its operations. The Gender Core Committee and Gender Steering Committee will regularly meet to discuss updates and concerns on each college and units' development, implementation and monitoring of their GAD Plans.

There are three (3) priority strategies for 2006 towards the achievement of CGWS' goals and objectives. These strategies are the following: (1) Assist the various colleges, units and LGU partners in the development and implementation of their respective GAD Plans, (2) Coordinate with the CCHDP (Committee on Community Health and Development Programs) in the development and institutionalization of gender-responsive health services within the various LGU partners of the University's colleges and units and (3) Monitor and evaluate the recommendations and proposals that were formulated during the past 3 year's major activities such as the 2-year draft proposal that was developed during the Campus-Wide Gender Sensitivity and Mainstreaming Training in Silang, Cavite, the recommendations developed during the "Consultations on the Violence Against Women Act (RA 9262): A Year Later" held on April 18, 2005 at the UP Manila Social Hall and the numerous Gender Sensitivity Training activities.

Lastly, the CGWS would align these proposals with the University's Plans for 2006 to 2008 that were collectively formulated by the various colleges and units during the UP Manila Strategic Planning Workshop on February 15-16, 2006.
