Curriculum Development

The Center spearheads the engendering of the UP Manila curriculum. It conducts consultations and surveys and attends training activities on mainstreaming gender in the curriculum.

It also developed modules on gender and human rights for Art of Medicine Year Level III students of the UP College of Medicine. The CGWS also led the WHO-requested field testing of their modules on Gender, Poverty and Health in partnership with the UP College of Medicine and College of Nursing.

Training

It conducts gender mainstreaming and sensitivity orientation/training primarily for UP Manila policy makers, faculty, employees (administrative and clinical), students and partner communities.

The CGWS welcomes requests for training. A training team within the gender steering committee is being formed to conduct such activity.

Modules are then developed to suit the participants' needs. To date, the Center has designed modules for students (standard module for first year and specialized module for College of Dentistry first year, for Social Science 4 students and College of Allied Medical Professions interns), for the consultants of PGH Department of OB-Gyne, and for the Association of Parents-Counselors of UP Manila, Inc. and the Guidance and Counseling Program of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA).

Research

Previous research activities dealt with gender and health topics. Some of these are the following: Patient Care and Learning Environment at UP-PGH Dept. of OB-Gyne, Situational Analysis of Medico-legal Care for Sexual Violence Survivors, A Retrospective Study of Rape Cases at the UP-PGH, and Human Sexuality Education.

Current research involvement are the following: Review of gender courses in the UP Manila curriculum, and Women and Men in UP Manila.

Campaigns

Aside from mainstreaming gender in the curriculum, the CGWS is also involved in the development of government-mandated Gender and Development Plan (GAD) of every college/unit. It ensures that all colleges/units submit their respective GAD Plans stating GAD-related activities and proposed budget.
